A look at the various kids science activities that can be carried out around the house.

Science for kids

By learning a few kids science activities we can improve our children's chance of succeeding in their academic life. A lot of people cannot afford to pop out to town and purchase a science kit or a child's chemistry set but there are much cheaper alternatives. Kids science activities do not need to be a weight on your wallet and can be carried out using everyday household items if necessary.

One of the easiest ways to get started is to using the measuring task! So what exactly is this? Measuring all different kinds of stuff around the house is a great science activity for kids. Remember, carrying out kids science activities is actually 'quality time' that you are spending with them so it's a win/win for yourself and your child ( or children ). All you need for this type of fun experiment is a pad and pencil/pen, a tape measure and a ruler. All these things can be found around your house with no cost to you.

Kitchens are a great place to find some new and exciting kids science activities. A kitchen makes a really cool science lab for children because of all the tools it offers ( bear in mind kids science activities that happen in the kitchen must be monitored by a parent at all times ). These tools include heat, water, refrigerators, bowls, jars, measuring jugs and many more things.

When doing a kid science activity make sure you discuss with the children what you are doing in an experiment and why you are doing it. Make sure they get in the habit of recording all of their experiment results. You are looking to arouse the children's sense of wonder when performing kids science activities so look for cool new things they may not of encountered before.

I personally tried a few magnet tricks with my son when he was younger as I was sure he had not encountered them before that point. You can pick up a couple of magnets from your local hardware store for pennies and they are great for science tasks. Using the magnets will raise questions and generate discussion with your children and they can be used in many different situations.

Science happens all around us in everyday life and it is our duty to point it out to our kids. Kids science activities are very easy to pull off and very low cost if you want them to be.
