How to contact people with the Facebook app “Are you interested?” for free.
Okay, so before I start, here’s a little bit of background. About a year ago I was playing around on Facebook and saw the “Are you interested?” app which allows you to find someone to talk to on Facebook pretty much based on their looks and details shown on their profile.
How it works..
While the service appears to be free to use, and browse, it actually requires a subscription before you can actually contact someone, which is clever on their part, but a bit of a bummer when you’ve just found someone worth getting to know.
What we’re going to do here is exploit a loophole they made in their site. When you find a contact you like, you are able to view a profile (not their facebook profile) and it’s very limited and unless you have an account, you can’t contact them. It shows a photo of the person, which usually is the same as their facebook photo, but the photo’s file name is actually the facebook user ID of that person, and with that ID, we can find their facebook profile and contact them that way.
Here’s how it works:
Go to “Are you interested?” and find the person you’d like to contact.
Click on “View more pics and profile” (found just to the left of the photo)
Depending on your browser (I’m using Google Chrome) this step will be slightly different, but you need to right click on the photo and either copy the URL or save the photo.
If you copied the URL, then take note of the last numbers of the URL, for example graph.facebook.com/513649492/picture?type=normal#/513649492 – those are the numbers you need.If you saved the image, then the numbers will be like this 41659_513649492_1829_s.jpg
Now that you have those numbers, which is the facebook user ID, you simply go to http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=user id
From there, depending on the user’s facebook privacy settings, you can message them, request to add as a friend, or whatever tickles your fancy.
As a side note, I actually met my fiancée using this method about a year ago :p
