A Well Deserved Acknowledgement
Due to financial woes I had gone back to live with my parents and since fortunes keep changing my time to move into my own place came up and I moved my things in my place where I am residing at the moment.
I will forever be grateful to this particular lady.
My cousin was helping me move my things and the reason that I involved him was that I needed him to elect the TV aerial for me and put together for me my old wooden bed that has very hard screws.
On the material day we got so held up that he was not able to fix the bed and that week I slept on the floor and he was to come on the following Saturday and finally fix the bed.
On calling him on Saturday he informed me that he was too busy to come over and this is when I went to the hardware store to buy the screws as the people who had moves my things had cut through the previous screws of my bed.
Then I met this friendly lady in her 50’s and as she sold me the screws we got to chatting and as I was leaving I just told her that even though I was buying the screws I did not know if I would be able to fix the bed and she just told me if I was not able, to go get her and she would do it for me.
I struggled trying my very best to unscrew a piece of the screw that had been cut through until I gave up and since I had nothing to lose I went back to the hardware store and found that lady and she told me her name was Barbara. She was chatting with a friend of hers and when I came by she did not even ask me why I was there she just closed her shop and together with her friend accompanied me to my residence where they both started working on the bed. After an hour it became clear that the cut screw was not budging.
Barbara suggested that we carry that piece of wood to her friend’s woodshop where they cut a piece out around the screw and then we went back and they finally fixed the bed. As they were leaving I asked her how much she wanted me to pay her for doing that and what amazed me is that she did not want anything because she was hoping that if her daughter who was living away from home needed help she would encounter a helpful stranger.
Every time I make my bed I remember her even though it has been two years now.
She touched my heart……………. Have you met a helpful stranger and what is your story?
