Healthy olive oil
Olive oil is a fat obtained from the olive (the fruit of Olea europaea; family Oleaceae), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin.
Different olive oil categories :
The Oil produced from the first pressure of olives, is often in their purest form, thus called virgin. Extra Virgin means that the oil is produced from the first pressure of olives which are low in acid - less than 1 %. Virgin olive oil may have the acid equals to 4 %. A blend of extra virgin olive oil and virgin olive oil, is known as fine olive oil that contains acid content not more than 3 %.
Benefits of olive oil :
Extra virgin olive oil contains large amounts of monounsaturated fat that is healthy. This makes it superior cooking oil from other cooking oil that consist mainly polyunsaturated oils. Olive oil is a good anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory that promote good health. It is also very high in Vitamin E and phytochemicals. Extra virgin olive oil is linked to reduced risk of heart disease, hypertension, and cancer. It is important to choose olive oil from the high quality. It must also be protected from light and keep it cool to consume and maintain it's bebefits.
