Decorate your own Cupcake Party
This article will give you an idea of how to throw a party where the kids decorate their own cupcakes. This party is best suited to the elementary school aged child, but could be used for younger or older depending on their abilities and your tolerance for mess.
What it is and what you need
To celebrate my daughter's 6th birthday she invited a number of her schoolmates over for a party. Our main event was the kids decorating their own cupcakes.
Cupcakes (at least one per child) - bake before party
Candy such as M&M's, gummy worms, nerds, etc... Anything small enough to fit.
Bake cupcakes and have them ready to go
Mix in food coloring to white frosting to make a variety of colors to match your decorations. Use Plastic knives for spreading.
Put candy in a number of small bowls that hands can reach into
Put out a table cloth
Make sure to put everything out on the table before hand so it is ready to go. Be sure to get the frosting out of the fridge at least an hour before as room temp frosting spreads easier.
Provide plates and napkins and a sink to wash at depending on just how messy the kids get.
Let the kids decorate to their own tastes, and enjoy their creations. If you have enough cupcakes let any lingering parents join in the fun as well.
Be sure to do cupcakes near the beginning of the party and plan plenty of sugar burning activities for afterward.
Let parents know to send their kids in play clothes in case things get messy.
If you kid is anything like mine you may need to use a spare cupcake for candles as they are not likely to leave any room for them.
