Visual communication or communication design degrees usually cover graphic design, art direction, illustration, animation etc. A degree in this field equips students for a career across various creative fields like advertising, marketing, film and television, photography, game design, to name a few.

Graphic designers can also take the path less trodden. Here are 7 jobs that are worth considering if you are creative, tech-savvy and interested in seeking opportunities beyond the norm.

1. User experience (UX) designer – UX designers are tasked with creating seamless, captivating experiences for an audience. They are required to have a thorough understanding of the product at hand, create usage scenarios, sitemaps, wireframes etc. They must have a deep knowledge of web technologies and graphic design.

2. User interface (UI) developer – UI developers write the code that allows users to fulfill their tasks by connecting them to the backend processes. They develop, design and enhance interactive applications and web pages.

3. Information architect (IA) – IAs help their clients define content and design (user flow) strategy for their websites, applications etc. To do this, they use wireframes, process maps and test sites to show the intended user experience to their clients.
