Advantages of Flash Cards
A look at the most common advantages of flash cards compared to more modern means of education.
Advantages of flash cards
A lot of people these days are turning their teaching methods towards software based techniques in turn forgetting the advantages of flash cards. A lot of parents are tempted to invest in educational software that they have seen advertised because of the large claims they make and the standard of advertising. Not all these software tools are poor, in fact some of them are really impressive and popular. Remember that not all that glitters is gold - you could be paying for something that will not suit your child in any way.
They main advantages of flash cards is the fact that they are so cheap! You can basically cut up pieces of blank card found around the home to use as flash cards. Alternatively, if you fancy a more professional set of flash cards then you can always visit a stationary shop and purchase a cheap set of blank business cards. These blank cards can always be picked up for next to nothing and are perfect for making flash cards.
Another of the main advantages of flash cards is the fact that you can use them just about anywhere. When I was studying music in University I used to make a set of flash cards before every exam. Whenever I traveled to and from lectures by bus I used to use the flash cards to refresh my memory - I got a few strange looks from fellow passengers but they worked wonders in the long run.
One of the advantages of flash cards that I noticed is that they never really go out of date and if they do you can very easily update them. A lot of more modern educational options ( like software ) is often caught being out of date and in need of upgrading. I still have the flash cards I mentioned earlier in the article and sometimes I flick through them for a quick recap on what I used to study. They are a little ragged around the edges but they still work just fine.
The most important of the advantages of flash cards is the fact that they really do work! Children with learning difficulties, special needs, students and adults have all had great results through the use of flash cards compared to other teaching tools. As with anything worthwhile learning, do not lose patience and be persistent.
